Why store quotes vary 50x

What actually moves the price.

A store is a website plus inventory, payments, tax, shipping and order flows — which is why store pricing starts roughly double site pricing everywhere in the market. From there, five drivers do most of the moving.

Theme versus custom design. The A$850 setup and the A$50,000 store differ first on this line. A configured stock theme is fast and looks like every other store on that theme; a custom storefront is designed for your brand and conversion path. We only build custom — it's why our floor is A$15,000, not A$850.

Catalogue size. Fifty products is a store; five hundred is a data and merchandising project. Ours is explicit: up to 50 included, 51–500 +A$2,500, 500+ +A$5,500.

Commerce logic. Subscriptions (+A$3,200), B2B and wholesale pricing (+A$3,800), POS sync with a physical shop (+A$2,200), and complex shipping and tax rules (+A$1,800) are each real engineering, and each one is a published line on our card rather than a surprise on the invoice.

Migration. Moving products, customers, order history and — critically — search-engine redirects from an old store is careful work: +A$2,800 flat with us, and worth doing properly once rather than cheaply twice.

Who's holding the risk. Store projects are where hourly estimates blow out most, because commerce edge cases multiply. A fixed, scope-locked quote keeps that risk with the builder — ours, in writing.

Our price vs the market

Where A$15,000 fixed sits — and what it buys.

Against the market's A$10–50k band for a fully custom store, our A$15,000 fixed entry sits low — deliberately. Senior Australian engineers shipping with AI acceleration compresses the hours without compressing the quality, and the number includes what the market often itemises later: the AI-visibility (GEO) pack, analytics with e-commerce tracking, launch SEO, 30 days of care and 100% IP assignment, all at A$0. Shopify or WooCommerce is a genuine choice, not an upsell — same price either way. Shopify runs itself day to day and bills its own subscription; WooCommerce rides on WordPress, so you own the entire stack but carry its maintenance obligations — market retainers for WooCommerce commonly run A$500–2,500/month, which belongs in your total-cost maths. More detail on the build itself: e-commerce.

Questions people actually ask

Straight answers.

How much does an e-commerce website cost in Australia?
In 2026: basic Shopify setup A$850–3,000, custom store design A$3,000–8,000+, advanced builds A$8,000–20,000+, and a fully custom store A$10,000–50,000 — WooCommerce in similar territory. Ours is fixed and published: A$15,000 for a fully custom-designed Shopify or WooCommerce store, launched in 4–6 weeks. The 2-minute quote builds your exact number line by line.
Shopify or WooCommerce — which is cheaper?
To build, we charge the same: A$15,000 fixed either way. To run, they differ in shape rather than clearly in size. Shopify bills its own subscription and handles hosting, updates and security itself. WooCommerce has no platform subscription, but you own a WordPress stack that must be hosted, patched and maintained — market care for WooCommerce stores commonly runs A$500–2,500/month. Pick on operations: Shopify for hands-off retail, WooCommerce for full stack ownership and WordPress-ecosystem flexibility.
Why is a A$1,000 Shopify setup so much cheaper than your store?
Different product. A basic setup is a stock theme configured with your products — legitimate for testing an idea, but your store looks like every other store on that theme and converts like it too. Ours is a custom-designed storefront: bespoke design, engineered store logic, e-commerce tracking, launch SEO and the GEO pack included. The A$850–3,000 band and the A$10–50k band both exist because they're different purchases.
What's included in the A$15,000 fixed price?
A fully custom-designed Shopify or WooCommerce store — never a bought theme — with up to 50 products, built and launched in 4–6 weeks by senior Australian engineers. Included at A$0: the AI-visibility (GEO) pack, analytics with e-commerce tracking, launch SEO, 30 days of care, and 100% IP assignment in plain English. Everything else is a published add-on on the rate card.
How much does it cost to migrate my existing store?
Our store migration add-on is a flat +A$2,800: products, customers, order history and — the part that protects your revenue — proper redirects so the search rankings your old store earned carry over. Botched migrations that skip redirects are one of the most expensive mistakes in e-commerce, because the traffic loss is silent.
What are the ongoing costs of running a store?
Platform costs (Shopify's subscription, or hosting for WooCommerce), payment processing on every sale, and care. The market for store maintenance runs A$380–980+/month at the e-commerce tier, with WooCommerce retainers commonly A$500–2,500/month. Our Care+ plan is A$390/month, built for stores and web apps, and the first 30 days after launch are free on every build.
Is the price really fixed?
Yes. The number from the calculator is the number on your proposal if the scope we confirm on a 20-minute call matches what you ticked, held for 30 days and scope-locked: if we misjudge the effort for the written scope, the difference is our cost, not your invoice.

Stop guessing. Get your store's number.
