How much does a website cost in Australia?
The real answer is a range, and everyone quoting you knows exactly where you sit in it. This page publishes the whole range — what the Australian market charges in 2026 for every kind of website, store and web app — and then lets you skip the three quote meetings entirely.
Get my exact price in 2 minutes → Or read our full published rate cardIn 2026, a professionally built small-business website in Australia costs A$3–8k. Premium custom sites run A$8–85k depending on scale and design ambition, online stores A$10–50k on Shopify, and custom web apps A$10–50k for an MVP through A$150k+ for complex platforms. Our own prices sit inside those ranges and are published and fixed: sites from A$7,500, stores from A$15,000, web apps from A$30k.
What Australian websites actually cost.
Most agencies make you book a call to hear a number. Here is the market, in the open — with our own fixed prices alongside, clearly labelled, so you can see where we sit in it.
| Project type | 2026 market range (AUD) | Typical timeline | Our fixed price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Professional small-business site | A$3–8k | 2–6 weeks | from A$7,500 FIXED · 2–3 weeks |
| Premium custom site | A$8–85k | 4–10 weeks | A$15–40k · 4–7 weeks |
| Online store (Shopify / WooCommerce) | A$10–50k | 4–8 weeks | from A$15,000 FIXED · 4–6 weeks |
| Web app — MVP | A$10–50k | 2–4 months | A$30–60k · 6–8 weeks |
| Web app — medium complexity | A$50–150k | 3–6 months | A$60–150k · 9–14 weeks |
| Complex platform / SaaS | A$150k+ | 6+ months | A$150k+ · dedicated squad |
| Who builds it | Rate (AUD) | The catch |
|---|---|---|
| Australian senior engineers | A$100–250/hr | None — but demand transparency: a fixed quote, weekly demos, and IP assignment in writing |
| Offshore team | A$20–80/hr | IP assignment gaps (assignment must be in writing under s196 of the Copyright Act), Privacy Act exposure when your customer data leaves Australia, and the vanish-after-handover problem |
| DIY site builders | subscription only | Cheap in dollars, expensive in your evenings — and the design ceiling is the template's, not yours |
Every range on this page becomes one number in the quote calculator. Pick a platform, tick what you need, watch the fixed price assemble itself — no email required to see it.
Price my project →What actually moves the price.
Two agencies can quote A$4,000 and A$40,000 for "a website" and neither is lying — they're pricing different products. The gap comes from a short list of drivers, and once you know them you can read any quote like an engineer.
Custom design versus template. The single biggest fork. A template with your logo swapped in is days of work; a design system built for your brand is weeks. Both get called "web design" on the invoice.
Page count and content. Every page needs designing, writing and building. On our published card the numbers are explicit: 5–8 pages are included, 9–15 pages add A$2,800, 16–30 pages add A$6,500, and professional copywriting adds A$1,900. Other agencies price the same drivers — they just don't publish them.
E-commerce. A store is a website plus inventory, payments, tax, shipping and order flows — which is why store pricing starts roughly double site pricing everywhere in the market. Catalogue size, subscriptions, B2B pricing and POS sync each move the number again.
Integrations. Every system your site must talk to — CRM, email platform, booking engine, accounting — is real engineering. Budget around A$1,600 per integration cluster at our rates; hourly shops can burn far more when the API turns out to be undocumented.
Motion and polish. Custom interaction design is what separates a premium site from a tidy one, and it's engineering time: we price it at A$2,600 as an add-on.
Who's holding the risk. An hourly quote moves the risk of a bad estimate onto you; a fixed quote keeps it with the builder. That difference is worth real money — it's why we publish fixed prices and scope-lock them in writing.
The platform changes the price.
Each platform has a genuine cost band in the Australian market — and a genuine best use. We build on all four, so the comparison below doesn't have a thumb on the scale.
| Platform | 2026 market range (AUD) | Our fixed price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Framer | ~A$4.5–40k | from A$7,500 FIXED | Fastest to launch, best motion — marketing sites that need to look expensive |
| Webflow | A$4–15k typical · A$25–70k custom B2B | from A$8,500 FIXED | Content-heavy sites a marketing team edits weekly — deep CMS |
| WordPress | A$3–8k SMB · well into five figures custom | from A$9,500 FIXED | Owning the whole stack, blog-heavy and integration-heavy sites — custom theme, no page-builder bloat |
| Custom (Next.js) | A$8–85k sites · A$10k–150k+ apps | A$15–40k sites · from A$30k apps | When the website is the product — premium builds and web applications |
The pattern worth noticing: platform choice moves the floor more than the ceiling. A Framer site starts cheaper than custom code because the platform does the heavy lifting; a Webflow build for a B2B company with hundreds of CMS items climbs toward custom-code money because the complexity is in the content, not the tooling. Choose the platform for what the site must do — then make whoever builds it commit to the number in writing.
What a web app costs.
The moment users log in and do things — book, pay, manage, collaborate — you're no longer buying a website, you're buying software, and the budget changes accordingly. The 2026 Australian market prices a credible MVP at A$10–50k, a medium-complexity product at A$50–150k, and complex or regulated platforms at A$150k+. For a SaaS product specifically, the sweet spot for a fundable, sellable MVP sits around A$40–90k — below that range something real usually got cut; far above it, scope probably crept before launch.
Our own tiers are published and built by senior Australian engineers on Next.js and Node.js: App Launch A$30–60k (MVP, 6–8 weeks), App Standard A$60–150k (9–14 weeks), and App Flagship A$150k+ with a dedicated squad. App scope isn't tickbox-enumerable, so those are honest ranges — the fixed, scope-locked number comes out of a one-week Launchpad Sprint (A$3,500, credited 100% to the build): a working slice of your product, a build plan, and a quote you can sign.
Budget for life after launch too: for applications, sensible maintenance runs 15–20% of the build cost per year — dependency updates, security patching, monitoring and the steady stream of small improvements real users generate. An app quote that's silent about year two isn't cheaper; it's just quieter. More detail on our web apps page.
Maintenance: what to budget.
The Australian market for website care runs from about A$90/month for basic plugins-and-backups plans to A$2,500/month where serious monitoring, optimisation and development hours are bundled in. The spread is honest — the plans do genuinely different things — but it means "maintenance included" on a proposal deserves the follow-up question: included doing what?
Ours are published like everything else: Care A$190/month (updates, backups, security, uptime monitoring), Care+ A$390/month (adds e-commerce and web-app monitoring), and Growth A$990/month (care plus GEO/AI-visibility work and conversion-rate optimisation). Every build includes 30 days of care free, plans are optional, and because you get 100% IP assignment, declining a plan never holds your site hostage.
